Here's a couple of shots of a piece of mining equipment from the 1800's still sitting where it was originally built and used...

Re: Mining Equiptment
don’t want to keep anyone on the edge of their seat
sort of to speak
as promised more photo's
the ascent of the cart carrying the ore to be crushed
this machine had 4 pistons/hammers and crushed this ore
to finer that gravel size 40 mesh
most of the gold was collecting on a green carpet type cloth
running down the water ramp (center right)
the rest of the ore went into drainage pit to be sieved later
for even finer gold dust
at the mining site they used a copper plate
over the ramp that the ore would wash over
the plate had a mercury solution smeared to it
that the gold would adhere to
they'd scrape the mercury off the copper plate
and heat the solution so that the mercury
would vaporize off in to another collector (for later use)
leaving the gold behind
i know many hear could explain much better
but it was areally great setup
& informative demonstration

Re: INTRODUCTION-Talk Rocks W/ Ed Arno <roc2rol>
Ed, they were taken close to Austin Nevada this past summer and I have no clue what the equipment was used for. This was part of an old silver mine in the area.roc2rol wrote:Plays In The Dirt wrote:Here's a couple of shots of a piece of mining equipment from the 1800's still sitting where it was originally built and used...
