Tortoise!

I came across this little creature last Saturday in the Western Mojave Desert. We saw another one in a different location on Sunday.



I was about 25 feet away from the tortoise when I took this shot. Zoom lenses are handy!

Thanks! I have seen a number of tortoises in that general area, and all of them appeared to be healthy (at least to my untrained eye). It's always a treat to come across one (or even three in a single area, like I did last spring).

I seen one last fall (before Thanksgiving) in the area of Shea Rd outside Parker AZ darn near ran the thing over.
