sal, for most of the state, open fires for refuse burning is either forbiden or highly regulated. You need special permits to burn trash in most of the state. In Japan and a lot of Europe, trash and even nuke materials are burned in a plasma fire which has almost no emmisions. I understand that this kind of unit, self-contained is highly renowned in these countries as safe, clean and produce energy. Yet there are none in the US. Amazing.

Incineration of combustible trash is among the most promising of alternative energy sources. It keeps that trash out of the ground, reduces it to harmless ash (unless you're an environmental extremist, and the carbon in the ash is something you consider a pollutant), provides a source of heat that can be regulated and directed toward boilers, which in turn drive steam turbines for low-emission cogeneration. Far more promising than wind, solar, and geothermal sources combined.
