what little I've gathered
twin engine plane
left Falcon Field heading to Safford?
6 people aboard- presumed dead

the images are pretty spectacular
large burn area
seems like it right on top of the Supers..

Geesh!
seen that fireball from the S.R. 143 in Phoenix
was it just a terrible accident ?
guess it will take a while to get an offical explanation

kudos to the S&R folks who went out to assist !

From the photos I've seen it looks like it's at the base of the hoodoos just north of the Flat Iron. The flight came from Safford to pick up three kids for Thanksgiving. The father was the copilot and there were two other adults on board. All six died. Very sad start of the holiday. Kudos to S&R for their rescue and recovery efforts.

Hi George-I was just reading about the other 2 gentlemen on board

"The other pilot was identified as Russell Hardy, 31, of Thatcher, Ariz.,
and the mechanic was Joseph Hardwick, 22, of Safford."

the article was saying:
"the plane missed clearing the peak by only several hundred feet."

S&R really did a superior job against difficult odds...

The plane crash was a horrible tragedy. PCSO Sar was called out, helped secure the scene, and did a preliminary recovery mission under the supervision of PCSO. NTSB then came in and did a workup and recovery of the plane and will put together the puzzle and try and figure out what occurred. The SAR team received praise from several entities for a job well done under very trying circumstances. I will get out more details as they are available.

The team sends prayers to the families. We also ask that anyone going to the site be VERY RESPECTFUL and treat the area as a living memorial. Treat it as you would want to be treated. The NTSB requests that NOTHING, AGAIN, NOTHING be removed from the site.
Thanx, SARDUDE

Thanks sardude

this tragedy is really bothering me
I was glad to read that the communities involved
are really supporting the survivor’s families

as a general question to folks knowledgeable on flight paths:
Is it normal to fly over the Superstitions Mountains
from Mesa Falcon field
when the destination is to Safford?
Or is the path more to the south avoiding the mountains?

Take care
Ed
