Hey, Jim, good tip but we can't make that. Grandkids are all wrapped up in soccer and football until Thanksgiving. This is an annual scheduling reality with us and therefore we always come down the day after Thanksgiving for the weekend.

With one exception, we have always stayed at the Palm Canyon Resort. Then a few months ago, there was talk in the ABDSP thread below that it was closing. However, it seems that the closure was only for the summer (which they had never done in prior years) and now they appear to be open. I sent them an email last week and they responded positively.

Borrego Linda?

Linda: Will take your advice on eating at Carmelita's this trip! :D

Hmmmm.....the Borrego Sun had a big story on it's closing and trying to sell. Then we heard rumors that if they sold it closed the new owners would have to update everything but if it's still open when sold it is grandfathered. Saw some cars driving in there today but didn't pay that much attention! They had a big yard sale. And sold most of the room stuff....robes, towels, bedding, etc. their website say will reopen soon. http://www.palmcanyonresort.com/hotel.htm

You will like Carmelita's!! Have a Margarita on the rocks for me!

Linda,

Just called Palm Canyon Resort to ask about accommodations for Thanksgiving WE. Clerk named Blanca answered the phone and mentioned that they were closed for about 2 months during the summer. Owners had walked away and PCR is now in receivership. I guess that means that the bank, or other mortgage holder now has control and is running it. She was real nice and they are offering summer rates. I will be paying half of what I did last Thanksgiving. Well, the same really. It is me, my daughter and her husband and their two children. The kids are now 12 and 10, so we will get two rooms and the cost will be the same as last year. :D

If you see Andy, tell him the Cowboy and family are coming.

We had a great time last Thanksgiving WE. Now planning our spring visit. Daughter teaches in same school district as her kids attend. Spring vacation is 3rd week of April, so we'll arrive Fri., 19th for two nights in town. Hope we get summer rates at Palm Canyon Resort again. Andy let the kareokee go and replaced it with some great bands since he took over. We always do dinner and later at Carlee's Place Sat. night. :D
