If you were near Redding, the Allie was this one >>> http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/ ... cauda.html

It is a subspecies of the Southern Alligator Lizard known as the Oregon Alligator Lizard. Follow the directions on the page and you'll see the distribution of all the Southerns.

Nope. I am very familiar with the one posted as they are common where I am. The one I saw at Keswick Dam was much smoother with a softer pastel coloration. It most closely resembled the pics I have seen of the Panamint alligator lizard. One day I will have to make an expedition back to the area to capture and photograph one. I had captured one back in 1984, but it escaped shortly thereafter.

Aliigator Lizards

Post by Jerry Feldner »

You may be familiar with your Allie but I am familiar with ALL of the US animals and many animals of the same family (Abronia, Barisia, etc) from my travels in Mexico and Central America as well as Texas. Panamints are very localized and habitat specialists. We worry about them every dry year since they do like to be near water. Also, Allies are quite variable if you just study the pictures and read the copy. I'm pretty sure it mentions how variable Alligator Lizards can be.
So, Nope, what you have in OR is what I said no matter how much you think it may resemble a Panamint. Take a look at this >>>

http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/ ... ntina.html and you will see how restricted the range of the Panamint is.

I know that flower but have lost many reference books and knowledge.
It had a name, locally, related to Christ. To find out, try this E-Mail,
the Garden Shop in Safford, run by the fellers I used to work for,
Matt, the Owner, or Cecil, the Brain . . .

mpace@cableone.net . . . Pace Gardens, Safford.

Send 'em a copy.

Desert Cruiser wrote:Really nice photos Terry! I know you had fun (except the noisy neighbors). Explain something to me -- the coati is this the same as a cotimundi (not spelled right)? Never have seen either but I think they are in the raccoon family -- right? Let us know as I really like that since I've never seen one and we did raise a raccoon once and returned it to the wild.

Don....
The Coatimundi [one word] and the Ring-tail Cat both be Raccoon Family
Members. The Coati male is purty solitary, except during the mating
season. The females and young travel in sizable packs. The Ringtail
is very shy, very solitary and very nocturnal.

For some quirky reason, the only way that Norm can post is to hit the quote button! He does not have the "new post" button nor the "reply to post" button! Weird, huh?
Anyway, I edited his post to remove the duplicate pics, etc...

BTW, Atlantic Pigeon Wings is the name of the flower. (I like the latin name better, but if I told it to you I'd have to ban myself.)
