The other thing I did was rent a 10” tile saw. I did some heavy duty slab work that day! With the big 10” your maximum cutting depth is 7” if not more. The thing with that beast, is that it kept blowing the electrical breaker in the house. That was what happen to that sphere coconut agate that I posted early.
Yes you can easily cut using a tile saw, it's really proven and tested

It worked great ‘cept for the power outages. That could have been attributed to many things. Not the right guage extension cord, too long an extension cord, faulty home electricity; or the blade not being the right type, causing undue strain

But a tile saw will do an excellent job and much more inexpensively, compared toa lapidary saw. The major difference between a tile saw & lap saw is blade rpm. A lap saw rpm is slower (1725). The tile saw (3200 rpm). Plus a good lap saw we’ll have a tranversering vice to hold the rock. A slow creep is want to slab a rock-- to get the best finish and smallest loss of stock material. Heck guys who cut good size rocks we’ll allow 5 hours or more to complete a cut.

& a slabbed agate that was on the saw for over an hour

Ever thought about opening a Rock shop? Something as a sideline I mean, not to gamble your life-earnings on. Just wondering, cool rocks amigo!

Hi Guys !!

I’m really stoked about this

A great rock hound friend gave me FranTom
10” Saw & Lapidary arbor to refurbish

6 months later--- mission accomplished !

There is lots of bugs to work out
My next goal is try to assemble
a gravity feed vice mechanism
which this machine originally had

I equipped it with a Barranca Blade
it cuts so sweet

so I'm in the rock cutting biz
keep me in mind
