Hello Everyone!
I been out cutting some agates this weekend!
These nodules were locally collected.
Here what they look like in the rough
I believe the outside dimples are called boytroidal or druzy.
and is an indication that the inside is agatized.
Enjoy
Ed

Re: Agates
Man, those are absolutely cool!!! Did you just learn how to find rough agates on your own, or did you learn from someone? Do you go looking for them in places you know agates have been found, or do you just happen to find things while out hiking and exploring?
I doubt I have enough time to add yet another side hobby to my already overbusy life, but if I would, cutting stones like that looks like a whole lotta fun

Re: Agates
Thanks Paul !
Wish I could take credit for finding those agate nodules.
A rockhounding asscoiate gave them to me.
I just started this hobby.
Reading rockhounding books & working with the rocks--
I realize-- how much I’ve missed!
I believe those nodules were found as ‘floats’ in an area called Fourth of July Buttes.
That’s located west of Phoenix out in the location of Palo Verde. Unfortunately I’ve never been there.
But the hobby is fabulous! As mentioned before, this Workforce saw is inexpensive and a fun tool.
Here' s a picture of the Thunderegg whole.
I guess these balls of fire get exploded out of erupting volcanos!
The picture doesn't’ show it well-- but the outer shell of this rock as blue dimples.
I’m pretty sure it was found in Arizona or Mexico.
thanks for looking

Wow - cool pix amigo, great work, and I am NEVER going to make it as a rockhound - those look like pretty ordinary rocks to me and I would never have even picked one up. Keep up the great work amigo!

Re: Agates
Search 'n' rescue, she is still trying to help the folks who are still looking to find Jesse Capen from over 1000 miles away in any way she can. I hope that guy turns up in some casino in Vegas having a wild party, though he might have to take some lumps for faking a disappearance at least he would be alive.
You must have the "eye" for picking out the types of rocks that will make good cut stones amigo, which could be a profitable talent!
