I’ve been doing a fair amount of studying about meteors
after a neighbor brought this rock to me for an opinion
Its dense, heavy & hard!
Tried filing it and the file barely touch it
The rock as a metal content which draws a magnet!

Re: Meteor
wow that's interesting Kurt!
have you seen something similiar ?
If its not a meteor (and most likely not)
that was my second guess !
I gave my neighbor the name of a person at
Az Mining & Mining and Mineral Museum
haven't follow up on it, yet
thanks for the opinion!

Re: Meteor
Looks like remains of a UFO that burned up on reentry into our atmosphere.

Re: Meteor
Ha ha ! It’s a gnarly looking rock for sure.
Unfortunately tho, I think Kurt is probably right.
Its terrestrial...
The only feature this rock doesn’t possess,
that all meteor should have to some extent
is fusion crust.
That’s a blacken area with a thin, glassy coating.
It happens when the meteor enters the atmosphere
and exposed to the extreme heat.
Kind of a high melt carbonization.
And it may be there
I would think furnace slag from ancient sites would have a value.
Imagine finding slag 1000 of years old?
They built fire in the mine to loosen the ore
plus the smelting process. That’s historically significant.
Not sure if the same could be said for a more modern mine.
So location of find is important!
This is where the rock I’m dealing with gets a bit vague.
ASU as a good web site
