That’s really cool!

I saw a blurb about that micro-photography on Yahoo.
I hadn’t seen any minerals --so the post is a real treat.

The photography also brings up of just how difficult it
can be to get a decent pictures of rocks---
in both the macro & micro realm.

I present this sorry photo, I took, as evidence.
This is a blue variety of cacoxenite.



The blue blob actually are very fine needles of crystals.
O well! At least the pink agate came out nice!

Knapping, milling, cracking geodes,chain gang ect ….

Cold chisel technique

To get smaller stones for my tumbler I put the rocks in a old sock.
Larger rocks that require the sludge hammer technology
I cover with heavy towel ect…
and it go without saying that
safety glasses are required

Hi there,

Love your photos... anyone have tips for SMALL lipothysae? I have some jewelry size geodes I collected from the baker egg mine in NM that I'm quite sure not only have the quartz & agate, but some DO contain tiny orange wulfenite crystals in silica.. so far, even with a diamond blade on a dremmel, they tend to burst... sugesstions anyone?

EEEK! That sounds like finesse work!
Can't say I have heard of lipothysae
Could you post a picture of the nuggets
so could formulate an idea?

But couple a questions anyway
are you using like a 1” diameter blade on the dremel?
Are you cutting it wet?
