Thanks for the info. It looks like the fire is heading south of Portal and away from cave creek. I love that area. I have caved there and to me the entire area is really special. I rmemebr Portal back in 1969 when the general store, post office and restraunt were all in the same room, outside was 2 gas pumps. . And the restroom was a 3 hole outhouse. I am gald the bird are is safe. I pray the fire is controled quickly.

Sadly, still burning. More campgrounds are now closed. Only 25% contained.

Apparently the birding area of Cave Creek and the SWRS are safe.

As indicated in my post the fire is 25% contained at this time. The fire is burning mostly in a large wilderness area, which explains why only 1 dozer is being used.

They don't expect it to be put out until a monsoon storm douses it with rain. I think it is up to 36K acres and is now encroaching into the West side of the range. Makes me want to cuss.
