Kurt, Jim asked me on one hike if I'd take his ashes into the mountains when the time came. I just called Doris and will coordinate with her to help him rest in a place he loved.

I am pleased to hear the matter of Jim ashes being placed in a special place has been worked out with Doris. I visited with Doris and Tom last night and found out the arrangements had been made. Good luck to everyone involved. Tom Kollenborn

Having heard of Jim's unexpected death, I felt shocked and saddened. I have known Jim and Doris since the mid-1990s when I visited Arizona for the first time on my own with the Lost Dutchman Mine in mind. I've had the pleasure of enjoying their hospitality and generosity on this first trip. Jim taught me a lot that first time. Since then my wife and I have visited Apache Junction time and time again from our home in Germany.
We both grew to respect the man, and the prospector with his profound knowledge of all things in and around the Superstitions. All our respect and condolences go out to Doris.

Kurt, as you probably already know the paper ran Jim's story on November 21st. They surprise me a little running it so soon. I hope you caught it. When you get a chance I would like to sit down and chat with you. Tom K.

Kurt any time would work for me. I am not interested in any of Jim's secrets. You forget I knew him almost twenty years. We were very close friends and he shared a lot with me. I have done the column on him and I don't need any more information about Jim. I do know other are interested in Jim's notes, but Jim wrote me a lot of letters and emails over the years. You let me know when you have a chance. We could meet at the Feed Bag or here at the house.
