roc2rol surprised me with a beautiful heart made from Mahogany Obsidian. Just using table light, it looks really dark with these wonderful orange/brown (mahogany colored) veins throughout. I wanted to get some good photos of it, and in the process took it outside and realized it looked COMPLETELY different with a strong backlight behind it.
I have the photos on my camera at home, so tonight I'll get around to posting them here.
Thanks a bunch Ed - it's a really unique item and far more special since I know the person who made it . By the way, I brought it in to work and had someone check out the orange/brown lines and also looked up some things on mahogany obsidian and you're correct that the veins are due to iron.
Thanks again Ed. Look for the photos tonight

Here's the photos - they really don't do it justice as it's much more beautiful in person.

Re: Got a nice surprise in the mail the other day
Unfortunately Paul that material is man-made
being that I'm a purist
I kind of balked getting any
Ha Ha
Its called Mohave Turquoise
its formed from some fine materials
the process or constitution of its is a bit of secret
hard to get any info
I think the metal is brass
might be copper
Its fairly exclusive and a bit pricey
I paid $20.00 for a slab about
3" inches square & 1/4" thick
I suppose it comes out to $2.00 a gram
really fabulous material to work tho
I probably could have drilled the hole
and carved the heart from a single piece
anyway the gal recieved it and
LOVES IT !
her words
Thanks
