Gold placers of Arizona 1915

Post by alluvialfan »

I found a 1915 PDF listing the placer gold deposits of Arizona.
Perhaps it would be a useful reference for someone with a metal detector. Unless it has all been found already.

The "scribd" website is a great time waster. There is a search function, and your only limit is your imagination.

Thanks again Dave: I got about 15 of the Desert Mags downloaded in about 25 minutes, but we have something to do tonight so I'll pick up later. The placers should be interesting as we do a little metal detecting now and then.

HOLA amigos,
Thank you for posting the link for that book - it is considered by many prospectors as "the" definitive resource on the gold placer deposits of Arizona!

I would like to suggest as a few additional references to anyone interested in prospecting for gold in Arizona, The geography and resources of Arizona and Sonora: By Sylvester Mowry, American Geographical Society of New York which was written by one of the pioneers of American mining in Arizona Territory and is also online (free) at Google books, the link is

http://books.google.com/books?id=1X4UAA ... q=&f=false

As you already have an excellent reference for where to look for PLACER gold in AZ, you might be interested in some of Arizona's incredibly rich LODE gold mines too; I find this book (below) to be quite possibly the best ref source on Arizona lode gold deposits:

Arizona Lode Gold Mines and Gold Mining, revised 1967, E.D. Wilson, J.B. Cunningham and G.M. Butler (Bull 137) (free download)

http://www.azgs.az.gov/Mineral%20Scans/ ... 37_ocr.pdfI can't recommend this particular book enough for anyone looking for LODE gold in AZ.

This one makes an excellent companion book to the one referred to (1915 AZ gold placers) free download

Gold Placers and Placering in Arizona, reprinted 1981, E.D. Wilson. (Bull 168)
http://www.azgs.az.gov/Mineral%20Scans/ ... 68_ocr.pdf

Once you have made your strike, for some info on how to develop it and work it profitably, (free download)
Exploration and Development of Small Mines, 1954, H.E. Krumlauf (Bull 164)

http://www.azgs.az.gov/Mineral%20Scans/ ... 64_ocr.pdf

Geologists have stated that there is at least as much gold still in the desert country of Arizona as there ever was in California's Mother Lode country, just that the difficulties of the terrain and lack of water have prevented large scale development - in other words your chances are very good indeed!

Good luck and good hunting amigos, I hope you find some of that Arizona gold!
