Mojave Road Guide
With GPS 4th Edition
Author Dennis G Casebier
The Mojave Road Guide revised edition includes new maps, GPS coordinates and the road log has been completely updated to reflect changes in management and landmarks. This is the original Mojave Road Guide authored by historian Dennis Casebier, who rediscovered this old wagon road, now a major recreational trail.
Mojave Road Guide - An adventure through time. Explore the route used by pioneers on their way to California. The Mojave Road lets your SUV act as a time machine, guiding you on a trail that stretches for 138 miles through country virtually unchanged since prehistoric times.
The 4th edition of the book has a new larger size at 6.75" X 9.5", makes use of heavier paper, and is wire spiral bound. Front and back covers are printed in full color.
The first part of the book has new features -- an essay on the history of the Mojave Road followed by a section of portraiture -- images of people who made history along the Mojave Road prior to 1880 -- 24 portraits are reproduced. The "General Guidelines" section has been modified to reflect changes in management resulting from passage of the California Desert Protection Act.
The narrative road log has been significantly revised, checked and rechecked, and reformatted to make it easier to use. The maps have been completely redone and special efforts have been made to simplify navigation between written narrative and the maps.
The book is authored by Dennis Casebier with the help of many Friends of the Mojave Road. Chris Ervin is responsible for creation of the maps and layout of the portraiture section.
Note: As of April 19, 2016, the National Park Service has closed a section of the Mojave Road between Mile 27.0 and 30.5 in the Mojave National Preserve. This closure is due to a washout on the old underground telephone cable road connecting Piute Valley with Lanfair Valley. No date has been set for completion of repairs to the road.
The publishers of the official Mojave Road Guide have developed an alternate 14.2-mile detour for Mojave Road travelers, the new log is located in the back of the book.
Recreation Map of the Mojave National Preserve. A colorful and detailed topographic map of the Mojave National Preserve, including roads and trails, as well as camping and other recreation information.
