Height: 1.5-24 inches

Description: Layia glandulosa is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family with an erect stem. The stem and foliage are dotted with dark glandular hairs and the plant is sometimes scented.

Leaf: The thin leaves are linear to oval-shaped, with the lower ones often lobed and approaching 10 cm in maximum length.

Range: Desert, High Cascade Range, High Sierra Nevada, s Sierra Nevada Foothills (rare), Tehachapi Mountain Area, San Joaquin Valley, Central Western California, Southwestern California (except Channel Islands), Great Basin Floristic Province

Habitat: Open, sandy soils,

Elevation: < 2700 m.

Flowering time: Mar–Jun

Notes: Layia glandulosa, a dicot, is an annual herb that is native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Distribution outside California: to Washington, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico.

HORTICULTURE: Given excellent drainage (modification of compacted or other water-holding soils may be necessary) and full or nearly full sun (tolerates summer afternoon sun), grows especially well in zones 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 and also in zones 1, 2, 3, 11, and 12.
