Coachella Valley Preserve

Hiking trails and palm oases including endangered plants and animals. The Coachella Valley Preserve system was designed to protect an endemic, threatened animal, the Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard, (Uma inornata). Found nowhere else in the world. Fringe-toed lizards are among those that thrive on the dunes. They get their name, of
course, from elongate scales on the toes of their hind feet that look like fringes.


Location:
Palm Spring area, east on Interstate10 to Ramon Rd. exit. Drive five miles north on Ramon Rd. Turn left on Thousand Palms Canyon Rd., Drive two miles to visitor center.

Hours: Gates are open dawn to dusk. Visitors Center is Open 8 AM to Noon.
