Lake Gulch Hike To Castlewood Canyon Dam June 12th

FRANKTOWN, Colo. – Come join the fun, learn about nature and watch Castlewood Canyon State Park change with the season. Park naturalists will lead you on a journey of discovery through our guided hikes and activities. Programs are free, however, please remember that all vehicles entering the park must purchase a $7 daily pass or display a $70 annual pass. Unless otherwise indicated, programs require reservations. 6/12/2011: Lake Gulch Hike To Castlewood Canyon Dam
This is a .8 mile hike to the dam that failed on August 3, 1933. When we get to the dam we will discuss the history of the dam building in 1890 and why it failed in 1933. Along the way we will study the rocks, and look for wildflowers and wildlife. Meet Castlewood Canyon volunteer naturalist Derald Hoffman at the Canyon Point Parking Lot. Limited to 12 people, ages 12 and up. Trail moderate. Reserve your spot by calling (303) 688-5242

6/25/2011: Capture the Canyon Photography Hike
Castlewood Canyon volunteer naturalist and longtime photographer, Derald Hoffman, will lead a hike on how to shoot like Ansel Adams. There have been many articles lately on this subject. What digital camera would Ansel Adams use and would he use Adobe Photoshop, etc.? Meet at the visitor center. Limited to ten. Call for reservations (303) 688-5242.
