At approximately 10 p.m. on July 12 an explosion occurred on a privately owned houseboat that was anchored on shore in Crystal Springs Canyon, in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Crystal Springs Canyon is located on Lake Powell, two canyons north of Halls Crossing, near buoy marker 104, in San Juan County, Utah.

Bees are present in large numbers at the Cholla Cactus Garden, Keys View, & Stirrup Tank. They are attracted to moisture.

Road construction on Shafer Trail at Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park will result in its closure to all travel weekdays from July 18 through July 28. The road will be open on weekends.

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on a proposal to replace the obsolete Trans-Canyon Water Distribution Pipeline (Pipeline). Fuel services are still unavailable at Halls Crossing Marina and the fuel dock remains closed pending repairs to damaged fuel lines.

The staff of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument want all visitors to have an enjoyable and safe visit this summer, and especially during this extended holiday weekend.

On June 28 a small area on land was closed in Kane Creek Canyon of Padre Bay at Lake Powell. It was deemed unsafe for recreational activities due to potential exposure to human feces. Witnesses reported that a houseboat with more than 20 occupants did not comply with laws and regulations about the proper disposal
