DEATH VALLEY, CA –A search on Sunday by multiple agencies concluded when a woman’s body was found 5 miles from her vehicle. It appears that this is the second heat-caused fatality in Death Valley National Park. Both fatalities were in the southern end of the park near the unpaved Harry Wade Road.

A Lake Powell houseboater died while attempting to rescue her two-year old son, who had fallen overboard, on August 23. The cause of death is presumed to be drowning, but is pending coroner’s confirmation. This is the sixth fatality in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area this year.

A dead bat found recently near Lees Ferry tested positive for rabies. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area staff received five reports of dead bats near Lees Ferry so far in 2016; this is the first bat to test positive for rabies.
