Finding the right crystals and knowing where to place them for the best effect.

Healing crystals have been used as a kind of alternative medicine for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians wore crystal jewelry for protection and to enhance their health. They carved intricate amulets made of rare crystals and precious gemstones and buried them in gravesites with their dead. Similar treasures have been discovered in many other cultures’ archaic traces.

Today, modern crystal healing has integrated many influences from Asian traditions. Reiki healing, Chakra energy work, Prana breath practices, work done with Qi vital energy, Yin/Yang harmonization and Feng Shui are all energy healing and balancing practices that may incorporate crystals and stones.

Crystals on a Window Sill

Each discipline offers a different perspective on the use of crystals. During meditation, crystals can be held, placed on the body or carefully arranged in the meditation space. Feng Shui recommends different types of crystals placed in specific areas of your home or office to align with the part of your life that you seek to improve or change. Chakra healers place stones attuned to each chakra along the seven energy points on the body while they work to balance energies.

One of the easiest ways to begin working with crystals is to place some around your home or office. Gemstones have more than one symbolic meaning, and more than one use. Choose one that appeals to you, and resonates with your intentions. Think of the crystals as a tool to manifest positive change in your life. The placement of crystals in specific areas of your home should align with your intentions and goals. Each time you look at the crystals, think about what you want.

“In the New Thought philosophy, the Law of Attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person’s life. The belief is based on the ideas that people and their thoughts are made from “pure energy”, and that a process of like energy attracting like energy exists through which a person can improve their health, wealth, and personal relationships.” (Wikipedia)

In order to select your personal healing crystals, it is important to be clear about how you want the stones to help you. Do you want to improve a romantic relationship? Find love? Grow your wealth? Advance your career? Improve your mental or physical health?

Once you determine your intentions, you can start the process of selecting your personal healing crystals. For example, if you want to improve your relationship or to find love, rose quartz is an excellent choice. You can pair one or more pieces of rose quartz with selenite or clear quartz crystal to amplify the energy of the rose quartz.

Next, think about the placement of the crystals around your home or office. There are different philosophies on crystal use and placement. If you practice meditation, you might put the crystals in your meditation room. Another option could be to create an altar where you place your crystals and meditation tools. An altar can be anywhere in your home that you feel is appropriate. A peaceful location in a garden, a corner of your office, or in a room where you like to relax would all be good choices. If you want to be more specific in your placement, you might want to research and learn more about Feng Shui and the different types of Bagua maps.

Feng Shui is the practice of harmonizing your living spaces with the universal chi to achieve good energy flow in your environment, thus creating positive outcomes in your health, your family, your wealth and your love life. One of the simpler ways to apply Feng Shui is to place certain objects in special sectors of your home or office. A Bagua map defines nine unique sections of your home, and notes what each section represents in relation to your life and the colors and elements that should be present in each of these sections to create harmony.

Think, for example, if you’d like to improve a relationship. You could apply Feng Shui by placing rose quartz in your bedroom or in the “Relationships” section of your home as defined by a Bagua map. Classical Bagua maps use the compass to define the areas of your home. The western Bagua map is lined up with the front door or entrance to your home. Depending on the type of Bagua map you use, you might also place your rose quartz in the southwest corner or in the rear right section of your home.

How to Select Your Personal Healing Crystals

To help you select your personal healing crystals, we have defined the most common intentions below, recommended crystals, and suggestions on where to place them in your home or office.

THE MASTER HEALING CRYSTALS

There are three healing crystals that should be included in your initial selection of stones. Clear quartz crystal, selenite and amethyst are considered “master healing stones.” When paired with other crystals these master healers amplify the energy of other stones. All three can be placed anywhere in your home and in combination with other stones to set and to support your intentions.

From left to right: Amethyst, Selenite Stick and Clear Quartz Crystal Point.

Clear Quartz – Often referred to as a “Master Healing” stone. Clear quartz represents clarity and is used to set and transmit intentions. It can help you visualize what you want to attract into your life. When used in conjunction with other crystals, it amplifies the vibration and energy of the other stones. Clear quartz crystal can be placed anywhere in your home.

Selenite – Is in every energy healer’s arsenal. It is the go-to crystal for clearing, cleansing and purifying. Selenite can be recharged by the moonlight. It generates light and purity, keeping negative, dark energy away. Best known as a clearing crystal, selenite can clear and cleanse your other crystals. It can be placed anywhere in your home.

Amethyst – Is often used for its purifying qualities and to improve energy flow. Amethysts are believed to inspire peace, serenity, clarity, passion and creativity. Individuals who work with crystals believe they strengthen intuition and improve focus. This beautiful purple crystal is used by energy healers for a multitude of health conditions. One of the top uses of this stone is to reduce stress and calm emotions. By relieving stress, so many other secondary health issues can be improved. Some healers believe it can help break bad habits and encourage sobriety.

LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS

Whether you are looking for a partner in life or you are already in a relationship, these love crystals can help you attract love and compassion into your life. When you look at the crystals think about what you want to change or strengthen in your relationship. If you are looking for love, think about the type of relationship you would like to have. Place one or more of the love and relationship crystals in your bedroom. You can place them together in a bowl on your bedside table or dresser. You could also place them in the Relationship section based on a Bagua map, which would be the southwest, or rear right corner of your home.

Place your wealth crystals together in a bowl, on top of the soil in a potted plant or on a decorative plate in your office. You can also carry them with you in a bag or coin purse. If you have a home office, desk or area where you work on your finances, placing the crystals in this area will help remind you of your financial goals.

Feng Shui Tip: Place the eight crystals in the Wealth and Abundance (Xun) area of your home, which is the Southeast area or rear left corner of your home as shown on a Bagua map. The stones you choose can be a combination of different crystals or all the same type of stone.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Many people want to improve their health or to overcome stress or depression. By adding healing crystals to your home or office environment, the stones will remind you of what you want to change or improve. Mind over matter comes into play when your health is involved. Thinking positive thoughts, being mindful and believing in a positive outcome have an impact on our mental and physical health. The healing crystals don’t heal our bodies, but they can remind us of what our intentions are and what we want to improve.

Amethyst (purple cluster in back), Rose Quartz, Howlite, Sodalite and Selenite Stick in the front.

Rose Quartz – An excellent crystal to improve your overall attitude towards yourself. This is a stone that promotes self-love and healing.

Jasper – Known as the “supreme nurturer,” Jasper is an excellent gemstone to use during times of stress. Jasper can help filter or deflect negative energy and promote positive traits such as courage, confidence and quick comprehension.

Citrine – If you want to focus on bringing light and positive energy into your world, Citrine is the stone for that. It can generate optimism, enthusiasm and joy along with other positive energy traits.

Sodalite – Natural healers use Sodalite to balance emotions and reduce panic attacks. Some believe it can boost your metabolism and your immune system. It has been touted to help with weight loss and insomnia, but there is no scientific research to support specific health benefits.

Howlite – Known as a calming and soothing stone, Howlite is used as a healing crystal to reduce stress and anxiety. It can be used to support your mental, physical and spiritual well-being.

Clear Quartz, Selenite and Amethyst should be paired with one or more of these healing stones for an amplified effect.

CLEANSING AND CLEARING YOUR CRYSTALS

Before you place the crystals in your home or office, you will want to cleanse them with clean pure water, salt water or by smudging them with sage.

Be careful to check on the Mohs scale of hardness to see whether a stone is safe to soak in water prior to cleansing. Stones rated 5 or below should not be soaked in water; they will start to dissolve.
