The Desert Sun reported “The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the hiker as Ruth Ross, 56, a tourist from Hamilton, Scotland….She and her husband, who arrived in the area on Sunday, began hiking about 7:30 a.m. near Murray Canyon and South Palm Canyon drives. They called for help at about 10:20 a.m. after the woman became unconscious.”
They had brought inadequate water supplies and the temperature was 101 degrees by 11am.
