Many people think that all deserts are alike, very hot and very dry. Those of us that live in the Mojave Desert know differently, one of the major differences between the Mojave and many other deserts is the elevation above sea level. I live in Yucca Valley where the elevation ranges between 3000 and 4000 feet above sea level. Today, January 22, 2010 was a snow day at the Morongo Unified School District and the Apple Valley Unified School District.
Right now there are only a few inches on the ground in Yucca Valley and about 6 inches at Pappy and Harriets Pioneertown Palace in Pioneertown which is 3 miles north of Yucca Valley. Today the Mojo on the Mojave will post pictures of the snow that we have here today and some that we have had in the past in the Hi-Desert, it has already started to melt and we may get more snow or rain in the next 24 hours but for now, “Happy Snow Day”.
