The Geese Have Arrived In The Desert

Canada Goose

Fall has definitely arrived.  The Canada Geese can be seen on many of the local golf courses in the Coachella Valley.  Their arrival is an indicator that the temperatures are cooling and fall weather will prevail.

Keep an eye out for the Geese.  You will hear them overhead as they fly by in their V shaped formation.  These graceful geese are not too shy either.  They let me get within 15 feet while taking this photo.

  1. Thanks! More on the Canada Goose from Wikipedia …

The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) is a wild goose belonging to the genus Branta, which is native to Arctic and temperate regions of North America, having a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brownish-gray body. It is quite often called the Canadian Goose, but that name is not strictly correct, according to the American Ornithologists’ Union.[2]

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first citation for the ‘Canada Goose’ dates back to 1772.

  2. They are Canada Geese – not Canadian Geese.
They are referred to as Canadas – not Canadians.
