Gophers are common in many parts of the U.S. They are rodents that love to dig holes in your yard, eat your gardens veggies and cause havoc in other annoying ways. Caddy Shack is probably one of the funniest movies when it comes to depicting a gophers personality. They are sneaky and always getting into some kind of trouble.

The other day we discovered a new way for them to be mischievous. A gopher had decided to dig a hole up through the bottom of my parents vinyl-lined pool. The good thing is that the pool was drained and the vinyl removed. Another casualty from those Oct. 07 fires. My parents had just painted the cement and were about to have a new lining installed when they saw the recently dug up cement and a hole in the bottom of their pool. After some observation they discovered it was a gopher hole.

My Dad had filled in the hole and refilled it with cement only to discover the hole was unplugged the next day. Darn gophers! It was a good thing this happened before they lined the pool and filled it with water. Otherwise it would be another large expense that the insurance would not cover.
Here is a photo of the culprit trying to ward off the human predator! He is not camera shy at all.
