2026 NEVADA & UTAH Wildflower Reports

Mar 23 2026, Rick & Margarita report: We went to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.  It’s off Highway 93, on the west side, about 2 miles south of the Glendale cutoff.  Where the power line crosses. There is always a nice assortment of wildflowers.   The Cactus are just starting to bloom.  We saw Marigolds, Globemallow,  Winding Mariposa Lily,  just a couple of  Princes Plumes, plus a variety of others.

Mar 19, 2026, Rick & Margarita report: I drove Northshore Rd for about 20 miles at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.  A lot of flowers are getting pretty dried out and past their peak. But the cacti are just getting started.  Lots and lots of blooms on them.

March, 2026, David & Brenda report: Feb 28th. Las Vegas NV. Kyle canyon Rd elevation 3400 ft.

Feb 27, 2026, Rick & Margarita report: We went up Northshore Road again at Lake Mead. There were not as many flowers as I thought there would be. It’s been about 2 weeks since I took a picture of a Silver leaf SunRay on Feb. 7th. Now all its blooms are open. I saw a fair amount of purple Phacelia and a lot of Yellow Cups. A bee was quite interested in the Phacelia. I saw a very tiny 5 Spot. The tiniest one I have ever seen.

Feb 7, 2026, Richard report: The first verbena and lilies are blooming adjacent to Casino Drive in Laughlin.  We have had no poppies yet out in Oatman, but the desert floor is quite green there.

Feb 7, 2026, Rick & Margarita report: Went to Lake Mead National Recreation Area up Northshore Rd. to Callville
Bay Rd.. The hills have lots of green. Wildflowers are starting to bloom on the sunny hillsides. Sand Blazing Star, some phacelia, yellow bells, yellow dwarf poppies, and Silver leaf Sunrays. All the Sunrays look really healthy with lots of buds still ready to open.

Photos tips: Most digital point-and-shoot cameras have a macro function – usually symbolized by the icon of a little flower. When you turn on that function, you allow your camera to get closer to the subject, looking into a flower for example. Or getting up close and personal with a bug. More on desert photography.
