Lupine, a common desert wildflower.

Jan 19, 2010 Expected El Niño impacts during early 2010 may increase precipitation for some of the southwest. Major rain is expected this week for southern California and Arizona. The 2010 wildflower season could be a good one. Check back for updates.

We have a online wildflower field guide that is designed to help you identify desert wildflowers by color, scientific name, region and common name. The pictures are sized to work on the iPod, iPhone and similar devices. With your iPod or phone you will easily be able to identify wildflowers while in the desert. Links for downloads are on the bottom of the Wildflower Field Guide page. A good book that we recommend is the Mojave Desert Wildflowers Book

Do you need some photography tips on how to get great wildflower photos?  If so,  DesertUSA have several articles on DesertUSA that will help. Links to DesertUSA photography articles.

    Hi Lynn,

I love DesertUSA. We’ve used your wildflower report stories and links to see some great things so far this spring.

The feel of DesertUSA reminds a little of reading the “Desert Rat Scrap Books” when I was a little kid weekending up in the southwestern Mojave desert. Now I live here full time (since 1979) and love the Mojave more each year.

    Keep up the interesting work!

  2. When will the desert wildflowers bloom? None of us knows for sure. Each year’s bloom is unique in its variety, profusion and timing. From late February through March, you can find blossoms on the desert floors. To plan your visit to coincide with the peak of the bloom, take advantage of our Desert Wildflower Watch. This page will help plan your trip and give you pictures of different areas.
