Height: l0–30 cm inflorescence.
Description: Erect pink to reddish stems with many small male and female flower clusters with pink, fan-shaped fringed sepals.
Leaf: Linear to narrowly lance-shaped.
Range: Mojave Desert, Desert Mountains, Sonora Desert.
Habitat: Sandy, gravelly slopes, washes. Creosote Bush scrub, Joshua Tree woodland, Sagebrush Scrub.
Elevation: 600–1700 m.
Flowering time: Aug–Nov, after summer rains.

Photo tips: Most digital point-and-shoot cameras have a macro function - usually symbolized by the icon of a little flower. When you turn on that function, you allow your camera to get closer to the subject, looking into a flower for example. Or getting up close and personal with a bug. More on desert photography.
