What is a Cactus?-- Most cacti are succulents - they have thickened, fleshy leaves and stems to store water efficiently. Cacti are part of the family Cactaceae and differ from succulents in that the water storing feature has been relegated to a main stem, while the rest of the plant is covered with spines. Below are links to cactuses and succulents found in the deserts, with photos and information about each plant.
