Height: 8-24 inches
Description: Flower petals 8–20 mm, widely spoon-shaped, purple to reddish purple. The base is sub-shrubby and there are several stems branched or not.
Leaf: Hairs dense; basal, clasping stem or not.

Range: Sierra Nevada, Great Basin Floristic Province, Desert.
Habitat: Canyons, slopes, washes
Elevation: 600–2200 m.
Flowering time: Apr-May

Notes: Perennial herb that is native to California and is also found outside of California to Utah, Arizona, Mexico but is confined to western North America. Often can be found growing up through other plants. Photographed Mojave Desert, Calif.
