Height: 15-50 cm
Description: Bright yellow bloom heads at the tip of inflorescence with 10-13 ray flowers and many disk flowers.
Leaf: Broadly lobed on the lower half of the plant.
Range: High Sierra Nevada (e slope), East of Sierra Nevada, Desert Mountains. Distribution outside California: to Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico
Habitat: Rocky or sandy soils, sagebrush or open woodland, dry slopes and limestone in Pinyon-Juniper and Joshua Tree Woodlands.
Elevation: 1400–3200 m
Flowering time: May–Jul
Notes: Annual to perennial herb that is native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. This was photographed in the mountains of the East Mojave Desert of California and can be found behind Rock Springs and in Caruthers Canyon in the Mojave National Preserve.

When you turn on that function, you allow your camera to get closer to the subject, looking into a flower for example. Or getting up close and personal with a bug. More on desert photography.
